Director -
John R. Payne, M.D
Dr.
Payne completed medical school at Emory
University in 1972. He completed his orthopedic
surgery training at Grady Memorial Hospital and
obtained his Board Certification in 1980. Dr.
Payne has been in practice for 25 years. In
addition to practicing with the Anniston
Orthopedic Group, he is the Medical Director of
The Surgery Center.
Administrator - Donna H. Smith
Donna
obtained a BS degree in Biology from
Birmingham Southern College and holds a
certificate of Medical Technology. Before
coming to The Surgery Center in 2000, Donna
had over twenty years experience in hospital
and physician office settings. She is
currently the President of the Alabama
Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
Director of
Nursing -
Renea Goode
Renea is a 1996
graduate of Jacksonville State University with a
BS in Nursing. Before coming to The Surgery
Center in 2000, Renea worked in the
medical/surgical and OR hospital settings.
Renea has been the Director of Nursing at The
Surgery Center since 2003. She is a member of
the Association of O.R. Nurses (AORN).

Office Manager -
Jennifer L. Bailey
Jennifer graduated from Jacksonville State
University with a degree in Nutrition and a
concentration in Dietetics and is currently
working toward her MBA. Her previous work
experience includes positions in ophthalmology
and an outpatient surgery facility in
Birmingham.
Charge
Nurse - PACU -
Donna Reid
Donna graduated
from Jacksonville State University with a BS in
Nursing and a Masters in Community Health
Nursing. She has experience in post-surgical,
pediatric, and ambulatory surgery nursing.
Donna is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing
Honor Society and the American Society of Peri-Anesthesia
Nurses.
Assistant
to Administrator -
June Martin
June worked for
approximately 18 years in the UAB Health
System. Before working at The Surgery Center
in 2004,
she taught computer classes at a local school.
In addition to her position at The Surgery
Center, she currently teaches Weight Watchers
classes in the community.
Pre-Admission Director -
Ann Green
Ann graduated
from Ayers State in 1972 with an LPN degree.
She has worked in hospital and outpatient areas,
as well as private practice nursing, prior to
becoming a pre-admission nurse at The Surgery
Center in 2001.
Anesthesiologist

R. Barry Stuman, M.D.
Chief of Anesthesia
Dr. Stuman
completed medical school at the University of
Alabama in 1982. He completed his anesthesia
training at the University of Texas in
Galveston, Texas in 1985 and obtained his Board
Certification in 1988. Dr. Stuman served as
Chief of Anesthesia at Baptist Hospital in
Montgomery, AL and provided services there from
1985 until 2000. He joined the staff at The
Surgery Center in July 2000
Anesthesiologist –
Dr.
Gaylyn
Horne, M.D
Dr. Horne
completed medical school at the University
of Alabama in Birmingham. She completed her
anesthesia residency and pain management
fellowship at UAB, where she was employed
before joining the medical staff at The
Surgery Center. Dr. Horne is Board
Certified in Anesthesia and is highly
skilled in both anesthesia and pain
